Wanda K. Clontz, M.Ed. Honored by Cambridge Who's Who
Wanda K. Clontz, M.Ed. recognized for professional excellence in the field of special education

CHARLOTTE, NC, April 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wanda K. Clontz, M.Ed., Teacher Assistant for Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.

Although Wanda Kay Clontz always had an interest in working with children with hearing impairments, as a senior in high school her interest in the field began to broaden. After babysitting a child with significant cognitive disabilities, she became interested in teaching students with any exceptionality. Now a Teacher Assistant at Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, a nonprofit educational program, Ms. Clontz focuses on providing early intervention services for preschool children in the Charlotte area. Ms. Clontz is changing the thinking of those in the field of special education. Her goals is to "break down the communication barriers" for individuals with significant cognitive disabilities. With the belief that all students need to have a voice, she is dedicated to helping them learn positive and effective methods of communication, and to the promotion of early intervention in the care of children. To that end, she champions the proper placement of students into special education systems.

The recipient of a master of education in curriculum and instruction, with a concentration in special education, from the University of Mississippi, earned with honors in 2002, and a bachelor of science in 1996 in special education, with a concentration in mental handicaps, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Ms. Clontz is affiliated with several industry organizations, including the Council for Exceptional Children and the North Carolina Augmentative Communication Association. A certified special education teacher, she often quotes the adage, "Try, try again," as encouragement for those interested in her field. She makes the point that people learn through repetition, and that it is okay to make mistakes as that is the only way to learn. Ms. Clontz seeks to always set her personal bar high and also believes that it is only through setting high expectations that great accomplishments can be made. She states, "Our students will do what we expect of them; if we expect little, we get little. If we expect greatness, we get greatness."
